On December 10, 2018, the Christian County Democratic Central Committee met for a Special Meeting to recommend someone for the Eastern District Commissioner. After a discussion of possible candidates to send to the Governor, Sue Ann Childers was unanimously chosen. A letter has been sent to Governor Parsons citing Childers’ experience as a past commissioner, her educational qualifications, and her many years as an educator in Ozark. The governor will appoint a replacement for Ralph Phillips early next year. Phillips won the race for Presiding Commissioner, therefore leaving an opening in the Eastern District.

Every vote really does count

General Election is November 6

YOU will be voting for our next US Senator and our next US Representative.

YOU will also be voting for our next State Senator, State Auditor and State Representative; YOU will be voting for our next County Presiding Commissioner, County Clerk, Circuit Court Clerk, Recorder of Deeds, Collector of Revenue, Prosecuting Attorney, and County Auditor.

YOU will be able to choose local judges and choose which judges should be retained or not.

AND yes, there’s more! YOU have 4 Missouri Constitutional Amendments to vote on, and 3 Missouri Propositions.

These are all IMPORTANT positions. Please be informed! Here are some sites to visit to make a wise decision: Check the Christian County Headliner or the Springfield News-Leader, or the League of Women Voters “Voter’s Guide” (at local libraries and stores). If you can’t find a copy of the “Voter’s Guide,“ go to www.vote411.org.

**We are especially proud that we have local Christian County Democratic candidates running in this election: for the 139th District, Cora Hanf; for the 140th District, Tony Smith; for the 20th Senate District, Jim Billedo; and for Presiding Commissioner, Bob Rubino. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU VOTE FOR THESE CHRISTIAN COUNTY DEMOCRATS!

If you will not be able to vote on Tuesday, November 6, make sure to get an absentee ballot. To obtain an absentee ballot, contact the Christian County Clerk’s office (417-582-4340).

2011 Jerry Litton Award presented to Rollers

Rollers_2011JerryLittonAward.jpg

Vi & Wes Roller

Each year the Christian County Democrats choose an outstanding person or couple to receive the Jerry Litton Award. Jerry Litton was a Missouri Democratic Congressman with a reputation for being honest, steadfast, loyal, and kind to his fellowman. He was considered a rising star in the Democratic Party with Jimmy Carter saying he thought Litton would be President one day. It was a blow to us all when he and his family were killed in a plane crash in 1976. Jim Kreider, one of our fellow Christian County Democrats, worked on Jerry Litton’s campaign and recommended we name an award in his honor. This award is given to a person or persons who exhibit the dedication and kindness of Jerry Litton.

This year the 2010 recipients of the Litton Award, the Steinbaughs, presented the award to Wesley and Violet Roller. We feel the Rollers exhibit many of those same Litton qualities of honesty, steadfastness, loyalty, and kindness to their fellow man. They are quiet and unassuming and their family values are reflected in their lives every day.

Congratulations to Wes and Vi for being honored by their fellow democrats!
