Marge Bramer presents check to Abbi Bryant, Community Outreach Coordinator for Freedom’s Rest
In January of 2019, Democrat Club member Marge Bramer gave Freedom’s Rest a check for $445, and our new Democrat Club President, Bob Rubino, presented St. Joseph’s Food Pantry a check for $296. Rubino also gave the Food Pantry the 448 “Best Choice” labels the Club had collected. These help them defray the cost of food purchases for the pantry. (Unfortunately, their monetary donations have been down almost 25% while the number of people needing assistance has increased!)

Sue ann childers
On December 10, 2018, the Christian County Democratic Central Committee met for a Special Meeting to recommend someone for the Eastern District Commissioner. After a discussion of possible candidates to send to the Governor, Sue Ann Childers was unanimously chosen. A letter has been sent to Governor Parsons citing Childers’ experience as a past commissioner, her educational qualifications, and her many years as an educator in Ozark. The governor will appoint a replacement for Ralph Phillips early next year. Phillips won the race for Presiding Commissioner, therefore leaving an opening in the Eastern District.
New chair of the Christian County Democratic Central Committee, Diane Stalder, lead a spirited evening of conversation and camaraderie! Friends gathered to share stories of last year’s events, both the good and the bad.
Joe Pitts, former Executive Director of the James River Basin Partnership, spoke on national and local environmental issues, calling on us to act now. Bob Rubino reported on the Missouri Democratic Party meeting and election. Zoe Billedo inspired us with reflections on looming environmental challenges. And, the Cattywampus Band, always a pleasure, lifted our spirits and provided the background for conversations among fellow Southwest Missouri Democrats, giving us renewed energy for the future.
The auction (conducted by Matt Patterson) of food baskets and other special items was a great fundraiser for Christian County Democrats.
Thank you all for participating and making it a successful evening!
