Christian County Democrats celebrate the holiday season with cheer, education, and optimism

New chair of the Christian County Democratic Central Committee, Diane Stalder, lead a spirited evening of conversation and camaraderie! Friends gathered to share stories of last year’s events, both the good and the bad.

Joe Pitts, former Executive Director of the James River Basin Partnership, spoke on national and local environmental issues, calling on us to act now. Bob Rubino reported on the Missouri Democratic Party meeting and election. Zoe Billedo inspired us with reflections on looming environmental challenges. And, the Cattywampus Band, always a pleasure, lifted our spirits and provided the background for conversations among fellow Southwest Missouri Democrats, giving us renewed energy for the future.

The auction (conducted by Matt Patterson) of food baskets and other special items was a great fundraiser for Christian County Democrats.

Thank you all for participating and making it a successful evening!

Holiday dinner and fundraiser a success

We thank all our dedicated, concerned Christian County Democrats (as well as our friends in Greene County and other nearby counties) for joining us at our annual Christmas Party.

Jim Kabell did a great job of lifting our spirits and engaging us in the future fight. The Cattywampus Band had the room tapping their feet, and our Fremont Hills dinner was a pleasure. Tony Smith accepted the Litton Award for his service to the Christian County Democrats—both the Central Committee and the Democrat Club. Matt Patterson helped us make a bundle of money on our baskets, pies, and other auctioned items.

This event is a fundraiser for the Central Committee, so we are glad we can start off this year with adequate funds And did we mention the fun had by all? Coming together in such difficult times was exhilarating.

Remembering our holiday party

December 5th, 2015, at the Fremont Hills Country Club, the Christian County Democratic Central Committee had a very successful fundraiser/party. We had two Missouri Democratic candidates and our Democratic County Commissioner speaking, a popular local singer and storyteller entertaining, and the Cattywampus Band enlivening it all. And we all agreed that the dinner provided by Fremont Hills was excellent.

Sue Ann Childers (Christian County Commissioner) began the talks and said she was open to listening to our concerns. Dr. Brad Bradshaw (running for Missouri Lt. Governor) received applause for his stance on Medicaid expansion and he told us of his plans for making Missouri #1 in medical research. Teresa Hensley (running for Missouri Attorney General) spoke to us about her experience as a prosecutor in Cass County and her dedication to seeking justice for all. Marideth Sisco (Ozark storyteller and singer) criticized the hostile environment of political discourse today and challenged us to question those telling untruths. She also sang a couple of her favorite songs. The Cattywampus Band played during dinner and after speeches.

Baskets and pies (prepared by our hardworking members) were auctioned off by Matt Patterson, and silent auction items were awarded to the highest bidder. The Jerry Litton Award was presented to Diane and Kent Stalder by David Lee who spoke of their dedication to Christian County Democrats.

Thanks to everyone who participated and everyone who helped make this lovely party a success (especially the Billedo family)!

Christmas fun and frolicking with Christian County Democrats

We met at Fremont Hills Country Club on December 6th, 2014, and enjoyed a very nice buffet, a good crowd of fellow Democrats, and an energetic speaker.

Randy Bland, President of the UAW Local 710 in Kansas City, spoke about his union and unions in general. He emphasized that no union dues are used for political candidates and that not all union members are Democrats. Union members must approve candidates to support and once they do, members support those candidates vigorously. Most candidates who support union issues, such as prevailing wage and minimum wage, happen to be Democrats.

The Cattywampus Band again entertained us throughout the evening, and Matt Patterson served as auctioneer for the many baskets and other items up for sale. With pies going for as much as $70 and baskets up to $100, we were pleased with the outcome.

Thank you all that attended, those who sponsored, those who donated auction items, and those who sent in money but could not attend. This is a fun social event for local Democrats, but also a fundraiser for the Christian County Democratic Central Committee!

Neither snow nor cold stopped the Christmas festivities

Many Christian County Democrats traveled the snow-covered roads to enjoy our 22nd annual Christmas Party at Island Green Golf Club. After a fine meal, Jay Swearingen, state legislator from Kansas City, spoke to us about his plans to run for State Auditor in 2014. We also enjoyed our favorite band, The Cattywampus Band, who played for most of the evening. Our auctioneer this year was Matt Patterson, assisted by Zoe Billedo; top dollars were paid for the donated items: 10 gift baskets, 6 homemade pies, and 3 gift certificates. A $100 fishing cooler with assorted fishing gear was raffled off, as well as a 50/50 pot. AND besides some beautiful poinsettias being given away, we had a door prize! Few folks walked away empty-handed, and the Central Committee raised funds for the 2014 election year.

The Litton Award, given each year to a deserving member of our Christian County Democratic community, was presented to Anita Jones for her dedication to our cause. (Unfortunately Anita was down in Florida, basking in the sun!)

Thank you to all those who donated their time and/or items for the auction. And a large thanks to our sponsors!
