Candidates & Judges

Your ballot will list the party of each candidate, and we hope you will vote for Democratic candidates Trudy Busch Valentine, Alan Green, and Kristen Radaker-Sheafer.

Some in Christian County will also have the opportunity to vote for Amy Freeland who is running for State Representative in District 140 (Ozark, Fremont Hills, Sparta, Saddlebrook). We hope you will vote for Amy, because she has worked hard on the campaign and holds our values.

Ballot Issues

There are five issues to consider on the ballot. The State Committee of the Missouri Democratic Party (MDP) has released the following recommendations:

  1. Constitutional Amendment No. 1
It grants the General Assembly authority to invest state funds and expand the treasurer’s investment options. The MDP State Committee recommends a NO vote, because it would remove legislative oversight and give more power to the State Treasurer.

  2. Constitutional Amendment No. 3
This amendment basically removes state prohibitions on purchases and sales of marijuana for people over 21 years of age. The Missouri Democratic Party supports the legalization of recreational marijuana but have concerns about certain provisions in the amendment. The MDP State Committee is not taking an official position on this amendment.

  3. Constitutional Amendment No. 4
This amendment requires a city to increase funding for police without state reimbursement. The MDP State Committee believes local communities should be able to determine how their own budgets are allocated. The MDP State Committee recommends a NO vote.

  4. Constitutional Amendment No. 5
This amendment creates a new state agency for the Missouri National Guard, headed by an adjutant general appointed by the governor. This does not save money and ongoing costs would be $132,000. The MDP State Committee recommends a NO vote.

  5. Constitutional Convention
Offered to the voters every 20 years, a constitutional convention consists of elected delegates proposing changes to the state constitution which must then be approved by voters. The MDP State Committee believes extremists from the Republican Party would propose measures against our democratic values. The MDP State Committee recommends a NO vote.
