Missouri Democratic Party 2024 Delegate Selection Process

rUNNING TO SERVE AS A STATE-LEVEL DELEGATE FROM CHRISTIAN COUNTY

By April 11, 5 p.m., potential state-level delegates must fill out a statement of candidacy for delegate form and submit it to the Christian County Chair Bob Rubino via email dcccmo@gmail.com, or in advance to the Missouri Democratic Party Chair Russ Carnahan via email delegate@missouridems.org.

To be eligible to serve as a state-level delegate, you must:

  1. Be a “Registered Democrat” on your voter registration with the Missouri Secretary of State.

  2. Have voted in the Missouri Democratic Party’s party-run presidential primary held March 23, 2024, either by mail or in-person.

Participating in Mass Meetings to Elect State-Level Delegates

All Christian County Missouri Democrats can participate in the Christian County mass meeting held to elect state-level delegates. All participants must fill out a participation form online ahead of the meeting or before the meeting starts in-person.

Christian County Missouri Democrats Mass Meeting Information

April 18, 2024

State-level delegates are to be elected at the Christian County Democrats mass meeting on Thursday, April 18, at the Christian County Government Resource Management building, located at 1106 W. Jackson St, Ozark, MO. Doors open at 5 p.m. sharp.

The elected state-level delegates will represent the Christian County Democrats at the 7th Congressional and Missouri Democratic Party conventions.

  • State-level delegate filing period closes at 5 p.m. CT on April 11, 2024.

  • You MUST FILL OUT the Statement of Candidacy & Pledge of Support to run for delegate.

  • The form must be submitted by 7:30 p.m. on April 11, 2024, to the Mass Meeting Chair via email dcccmo@gmail.com, or in advance to the Missouri Democratic Party.

  • All advance and in-person forms may also be sent to the Missouri Democratic Party Chair Russ Carnahan via email to delegate@missouridems.org.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR:

  • The 7th Congressional District meeting is scheduled for May 9, 2024, at the Teamsters Hall on East Division Street, Springfield, MO, and the

  • State Democratic Convention is June 22 in Columbia, MO.

Missouri Democratic Party Announces Opening of Mail-Ballot Request Period for 2024 Democratic Party-Run Presidential Primary

The Missouri Democratic Party (MDP) is announcing the opening of the mail-ballot request period to vote in the presidential primary election scheduled on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Registered Missouri voters can request a ballot online or call 855-433-8683 to request their mail ballot.

Additionally, the Missouri Democratic Party announced the Democratic National Committee has fully approved MDP’s plan for Missouri’s 2024 Democratic Presidential Primary. The following details are confirmed with more information available soon:

  • Missouri’s Democratic presidential primary is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2024.

  • The Democratic presidential primary will be a hybrid election, offering Missouri Democrats an opportunity to cast their vote by mail or at an in-person voting site from 8 a.m. until noon on the day of the primary.

  • Pending final availability, at least one in-person voting site will be held in each county, with additional sites in larger counties.

  • Missourians registered to vote by February 21, 2024, with the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office will be eligible to vote in the Missouri Democratic presidential preference primary election, so long as the  voter is not registered as a Republican.

  • The mail-ballot request period will close on March 12, 2024.

  • Ballots must be returned to the MDP by 10 a.m. on March 23, 2024.

  • Votes will be counted by March 25, with the announcement to be made by March 28, 2024.

Background:

In 2022, the Republican-controlled legislature passed HB 1878, which eliminated Missouri’s state-run presidential preference primary election and designated a party-run system for choosing presidential nominees. This is another attack on free and fair democratic elections that makes it harder for people to exercise their voting rights. The Missouri Democratic Party adamantly opposed this change, and none of the Democrats serving in the Missouri State House or Senate at the time voted for this bill. Nearly every Republican member supported the measure.

Missouri Democratic Party Announces 2024 Democratic Presidential Candidates To Appear On March Primary Ballot, Overviews Primary Election Process

The Missouri Democratic Party, pursuant to our presidential selection process, is announcing that the period for presidential candidates to file to appear on the Missouri Democratic presidential primary ballot closed at 5 PM, January 22, 2024. The following candidates filed and will appear on the ballot for the presidential primary election scheduled on Saturday, March 23, 2024:

Joseph R Biden, Jr
Dean Phillips
Stephen P Lyons
Armando Perez-Serrato
Marianne Williamson
Jason Michael Palmer
Uncommitted

“Uncommitted” shall automatically appear on the ballot. Write-ins are not allowed per DNC Rules (Rule 11.C, Rule 14.A, Rule 14.C, Rule 14.D, Rule 14.E, & Rule 15.H)

On the Republican Legislature’s change requiring state parties to run their presidential preference primary election, Missouri Democratic Party Chair Russ Carnahan released the following statement:

“After the Missouri Republicans eliminated our state-run presidential primary, the Missouri Democratic Party worked to design the best party-run process possible given the barriers of the new law. The old-fashioned caucus-only election makes it hard to participate in our free and fair Democratic elections and disenfranchises too many senior citizens, military personnel, those with disabilities, and work or childcare obligations from exercising their right to vote.” Carnahan said.

“Missouri Democrats sought to make lemonade with these lemons and maximize voter participation by offering a mail-in and an in-person voting option to Democratic presidential primary voters. It has long been the belief of the Democratic Party that greater participation in our Democratic elections is what is best for everyone, and the Missouri Democratic Party will continue to advocate for policies that expand access to voting and fight against these attacks on our Democratic process and restore Missouri’s state-run presidential primary for future elections.”

Additionally, the Missouri Democratic Party announced the Democratic National Committee conditionally approved MDP’s plan for Missouri’s 2024 Democratic Presidential Primary. The following details are confirmed with more information available soon:

  • Missouri’s Democratic presidential primary is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2024.

  • The Democratic presidential primary will be a hybrid election, offering Missouri Democrats an opportunity to cast their vote by mail or at an in-person voting site from 8 AM until noon on the day of the primary.

  • Pending final availability, at least one in-person voting site will be held in each county, with additional sites in larger counties.

Christian County Democrats celebrate the holidays

It was another successful holiday party for the Democrats in Christian County on Dec. 2, 2023.

The food was good, the Cattywampus Band fantastic as always, and our speaker Stephanie Hein was inspiring!

Hein (Missouri Representative from the 136th District) said we need to raise the money, work the field, and take ownership of President Biden's accomplishments.

"We have to tell our story!"

The story of an economy for all, help for seniors, health insurance for all, public education, and the freedom to read. Hein also asked us to keep informed about issues in Jefferson City, and call the Speaker's office on bills that you object to.

"Use your voice, step up and be involved!"

Christian County Democrats celebrate holidays on positive note

On December 3, 2022, Christian County Democrats (along with many Greene County Democrats) celebrated the holiday season and recent political wins.

Entertainment

The legendary Cattywampus Band started us out with positive notes of traditional and original songs, with Tom Parker on banjo and vocals, and Kent Franks, Danny Lockmiller, and Mark Crabtree on guitar and vocals.

Lucas Kunce, Guest speaker

Our new Christian County Democratic Central Committee Chair, Bob Rubino, introduced guest speaker, Lucas Kunce, recent candidate for U.S. Senate. Kunce gave a passionate speech about the importance of working-class Americans and our role as Democrats in supporting them. And when folks question the resourcefulness of the American people, Democrats should remind them of what we have done for working class people in the past—healthcare reform, raising the minimum wage, universal paid sick days, addressing student debt, progressive taxation, public education, and energy and environmental reform. And we are not done yet!

Litton Award goes to…

For the last 26 years we have given the Litton Award to someone in our area who has gone above and beyond in supporting the Democratic Party in our county. Marge and Mike Bramer, who won this award last year, explained the significance of this award, and presented the 2022 award to Robin Rader. Rader has worked as Treasurer for the Democrat Club of Christian County as well as being a member of the Central Committee for several years. She has chaired our holiday party in recent years and is always open to helping out when and where she can.

Live Auction

The live auction was a hit with lots of donated goodies to purchase—baskets of food and many other treats, two of Violet Roller’s legendary pecan pies, a Missouri Department of Conversation print, and Rader’s (and her mother’s) popular peanut brittle. Thanks to all Committee members who donated items to the auction! Since the holiday party is also a fundraiser for the Central Committee, the auction brings in money for future Democrat candidates!
